I posted this once before regarding an Internal Server Error when I clicked the color picker in the category definition.  I was hoping it was fixed in 1.5.1.2.

Anyway, it occurred to me to check my raw logs and this is what it reports with 1.5.1.2:

Code:
[2007-03-08 11:40:34]: error: directory is writable by others: (.../components/com_jcalpro/include)
[Thu Mar  8 11:40:34 2007] [error] File does not exist: .../500.shtml
[Thu Mar  8 11:40:34 2007] [error] Premature end of script headers: .../components/com_jcalpro/include/colorpicker.php

Does that help?

Yes, this does help. I have attached to this post a Zip file with a test version I would like you to try. Just extract "colopicker.php" and put it here:

  /components/com_jcalpro/includes

Should also take a look at the permission settings on the "include" directory. The message indicates that it is writable and shouldn't be.

Please let us know one way or the other whether this helps or not.

It sounds like the file didn't fully upload. "Premature end of script headers".

Can you verify that /components/com_jcalpro/include/colorpicker.php uploaed properly (i.e. compare the server copy to a local copy extracted from com_jcalpro_1.5.x.zip.

Van's copy will do nicely also Smiley

The two versions are identical.  Besides, I had this problem with 1.5.1.1 as well.  So it's probably some sort of server setting; yes?  I'm sending the issue to them.

The more I think about it, it is actually more likely that the write permissions on this directory or ownership on the "colorpicker.php" file are causing this whole problem ... the server is not even trying to run it because it sees this security issue.

If you do not have the ability to change directory and file permissions, then you will need to have your server folks do that for you.

The file above has been included in the forthcoming release candidate v1.5.2.

Yes, somehow the component installation procedure protected this file or the settings were copied over from the distribution.  I really don't know.  But I changed it to 755 and all is fine.

Thanks for your help!

Finally, the last explanation comes from my hosting company who says...
Quote
We are running php as cgi in SuExec mode and thus the highest possible permissions for a php script can be 755. Anything that is greater than 755 will produce "500 Internal Server Error".

Hi Fellas,
Same problem here. I have changed the permissions to 755 and verified the file is complete. I also am not seeing it work as expected even after creating the category manually. Any help is appreciated

Thanks Guys!

I routinely use 0644 for my colorpicker.php and 0755 for the includes folder. I don't think it's a permissions issue.

I had the same problem with most recent release 1.5.3.  The permissions on the 'components/com_jcalpro/include' folder were set to 0777 following a virgin install.  I changed it to 0755 and now the colorpicker works.

mine doesnt show any error but it doesnt show the colorpicker in the backend. The only time you can change the color is if you do it manually...any help?
