How does the remote calendars feature work? I can't figure it out or find documentation.

Ditto!  I find no mention of this in any of the documentation.  Heck, even a Google search turns up nothing.

What gives!?!

Is this a feature that nobody uses?

The remote calendars works with the event server. In the "known issues" sticky thread in this board, we note that this feature will work later with a seperate component.

Well how about this then... I have a client with two separate Joomla! 1.5 sites and they want to share a single calendar between both.  They're OK with managing the calendar from only one site but would like to be able to at least view and navigate it on both.

Don't you just love it when people come up with wonderful ideas like this!?!  Tongue

What do you think, am I asking for trouble trying to get this to work?

Never mind... this answered my question:
http://dev.anything-digital.com/Forum/?topic=2052.msg6301#msg6301

The two sites are on the same server, though.  So, I'm still toying with the idea that it might be possible to hard code a connection string into the event listing module file to get a quick fix for the time being.

Any thoughts on this?

Use a shared Google and its feeds. There are several extensions to help with this:
http://extensions.joomla.org/component/option,com_mtree/task,viewlink/link_id,1625/Itemid,35/
http://extensions.joomla.org/component/option,com_mtree/task,viewlink/link_id,4188/Itemid,35/

Or use EventList:

It has no calendar view or minicalendar unless you install this module:

There is also the old gigCalendar, with this essential add-on:
http://extensions.joomla.org/component/option,com_mtree/task,viewlink/link_id,860/Itemid,35/

iWebCal:
http://extensions.joomla.org/component/option,com_mtree/task,viewlink/link_id,1343/Itemid,35/

EventManager:

You could use a shared Google calendar and its feeds. There are several extensions to help with this in Joomla.

Or use EventList, which has a calendar module and hack to add an RSS feed.

There is also the old gigCalendar; can;t recall if it does RSS feeds, but someone may have modified it to do so.

iWebCal and EventManager are based on iCal files, which you import or create online and then place in feeds. Systems like Google Calendar should be able to read these.
