I am currently using webcalng, but would like to have a more integrated calendar for my joomla installation.  There are currently two very important features that webcalng has that JCal Pro does not have:

  • Ability to send reminder emails for an event at multiple predetermined times (1 day, 2 days, 1 week, etc, etc)
  • The ability to edit or delete one instance of a recurring event without changing all other occurrences of an event.  For example, if I have a weekly meeting, but if I need to cancel it one week due to a holiday or some other reason, I can delete the one meeting, and all the rest of the weekly meetings are not affected.

Hope those make sense.  If not, please let me know and I'll try and explain further.  Thanks for the work on a great product!

Great ideas. Thanks. Recurring exceptions are especially important.

I look forward to the enhancements....Until they are added, I'll have to stay with webcalng.

One other "nice to have" would be to allow the ability to assign an icon to a calendar entry.  The visual design on JCal Pro is beautiful, but being able to assign some nice looking icons (maybe based on category?) would be another nice addition.

Depending what you want to do you can do this with a Perl Script.  Perhaps you need to describe further what you need:
  • Remind every registered Joomla user? (Spam alert!!) But you could write a perl script to pull that data from the users table and send the email... there are fields that allow users to select not to receive email, I assume you'd exclude those!
  • Ability for individual users to ask to be reminded - so now you need to gather email addresses in a table and link that to events and user details.  Then how will it decide the reminder interval (user set or admin set/ event set)
  • Does the email need to say anything specific to the event or just copy the event details into the body?

I agree.. An email notification would enhance the functions of a calendar by a LOT. That is a feature that is DESPERATELY needed in a calendar..

Good luck guyz! GREAT component! Beats anything else around..

I was just checking in to see if anything has ever been developed that will allow a site's users to be able to be sent an email reminding them of an event at the interval they specify?

Example: a meeting is coming up on a certain date and various site users can add their email address and then get sent an email reminder prior to the meeting.

This would be great for:

- Birthdays
- Recurring events
- Reminders, etc.

Anyone have any ideas on this?

Thanks!
