@wbell: yes, i believe I acknowledged his progress in my first few words. My comment regarding the security is valid, and i put it here for noobs who may be a little less savvy. It was in no means a criticism of Maxowns, but rather a gentle reminder to integrate it, so it would have the security of all the core joomla files. Specifically, files called from within Joomla must pass the following security check:

Code:
defined( '_VALID_MOS' ) or die( 'Restricted access' );

Once Maxowns file is integrated, it can have this check at the beginning, and thus reduce the chance of someone accessing the script directly.

So, to summarize...we've been developing JCal Pro steadily (just because you don't have a new version to download, doesn't mean we have not been busy). Maxowns and other community members have posted their efforts. I reviewed all your posts to date and I don't see your contributions. Did i miss something? You have such a high sense of entitlement, one could only assume you have a large contribution sitting somewhere on this forum.

In other words, your attitude is not pushing this issue in a positive direction, to the dismay of others who might appreciate this feature. If JCal doesn't suit your purposes, please try JEvents or Thyme.

That's fine, V-man.  Criticize me for stating the obvious.  No; I don't have a "large contribution sitting somewhere on this forum", but I, and many other members of the community, have mentioned several times that our "large contribution" would be implemented monetarily.  You've mentioned that money is not what you're looking for, but obviously you're holding out for something! WHAT IS IT?  JUST TELL US SO WE CAN HELP YOU!! I've offered and delivered sample data files, for your recurring events add-on, but you've barely acted upon them.

Maybe you can work your magic, with the attached CSV file.  I've successfully gotten it to import into the JCal Pro SQL database.  Have you even made it that far?

You know... My attitude may be negative, but we feel as if our posts are being completely overlooked.  Just read some of the other posts in this thread or in other threads.  When will the developers open their eyes, and realize that we aren't all super-coders.  So, we can't all contribute in the same way.

If you can't develop this feature, or are unwilling to do so, just tell us!  "Stop beating around the bush!"

Hi guys,

The reason I don't think this import is the killer feature is that there are many more requests/views on the forum threads for things like robust recurring events (like the 3rd thurdays of every month except Dec 25) and event registration.

Wait a stinkin' minute.... if your com can't handle recurring events well... then it sounds to me like you NEED .ics and iCal importation... since they DO handle recurring events well.... this logic does not compute.

I too would love to see this feature added directly to JCal.  The ability to import from Outlook would seem to be a pretty common request. This feature and a good print option are the only things holding me back from implementing JCal on my site.

Thanks to all who have worked on and brought this request to light.

I have to put in my two cents. I've now had three installations where the inability to import events has nixed my using jcalpro, even tho everything else about it is great. In a business environment, you must be able to make populating a calender easy - so many people give up and just dump info in apps. That secretary who knows every event for the next two months - she has it in a file sheet. She can't work icalpro - or doesnt have the time. So, everybody gets emailed her excel sheet. If i could have imported from other calendars, jcalpro would have been on the three sites, whoops, make that four, as permanent installs. I love it, but not being able to auto-populate via upload of some kind (as you can do with user lists, etc) makes it problematic.

Here Now is my two cents....  Ive spent around 40-60$ so far with A-D.com - I jumped on board with the full 20$ pro for v1.6 but most the features I was hoping for were not complete after my rush purchase.  So far I have added a user upload image feature - a calendar upload feature - Intergration with PARAINVITE pro to send invites for the events to 40 people at once while importing their address books from web mail or csv upload, FOUGHT HELL with the mambot... what a stupid mambot using the module as its reference...

In not bitching... I am here to say THIS THREAD IS THE GOLD STANDARD OF JCAL - get this type of import going already!

And how about taking the time to RELEASE 1.6 STABLE!

For anyone looking for an import function for JCalPro 1.5 (not the newest release), I developed an import function for JCal Pro 1.5 and you can get it at http://www.joomlasimple.com. Don't forget to read the install notes to save yourself some headaches (also the reeadme in the zip). It's a hack -- does overwrite some JCal code, but then the Import lives under the existing (but not useful) Import tab on the Components menu.

Fields required:

Title, CategoryID, Date, TimeStart, TimeEnd (not required), Description

I don't have a forum up yet, but here will be one soon in case anyone finds any bugs.

Thanks.  The prior post is a few months old, will this/is this expected to become part of the base Jcal component?

I went to the site and specifically to http://www.joomlasimple.com/How-Tos/Add-Events-using-JCal-Pro.html, as amanda mentions is for Joomla 1.0 and not 1.5... I guess we need to wait and see or try manual SQL updates
