I can confirm warning during installation:

1) PHP Warning: chmod() [<a href='function.chmod'>function.chmod</a>]: Operation not permitted in .../administrator/components/com_jcalpro/install.jcalpro.php on line 201, referer: .../administrator/index.php?option=com_installer

Not sure what you mean by independent, but he is confirming the issue I reported as well in my beta report:

Can confirm this one, and have no access to the Edit Settings Page. Get only blank page when clicking on the link. JCal Pro 1.5.3 Beta224 (J1.5)

Legacy Plugin is disabled

Stefan, I noticed recently that the "old fix" noted above doesn't work because the code has moved.

I posted this update. Is this where you changed your code? If so, what option worked?
